Rare will leverage the savings club system to develop community enterprises – businesses that are anchored in the community and owned by multiple members of that community. Community enterprises will aim to improve local value chains in ways that maximize value retained by fisher households and maintain important social ties and cohesion.
The enterprises are planned around an identified community need and generally provide services that improve the value chain, either adding value post-harvest such as fish drying/packaging operations or providing services to improve the fishery such as ice production, cold storage.
