Fish Forever Essentials

Considered the center of global coral ecosystem biodiversity, the Philippines’ waters contain almost ten percent of the world’s coral reefs, large swaths of mangrove forests, and more Marine Protected Areas than any other country. The Philippines’ coastal waters support the 1.9 million registered small-scale fishers and their families who rely on these waters to provide income and food. 85% of Filipino fishers are coastal, small-scale fishers, and catch nearly half of the Philippines’ fish.

Fish Forever in the Philippines works with fishing villages and municipal governments to build and strengthen community-based coastal fisheries management of the Philippines’ municipal waters. Learn more about the Fish Forever program with this short video.

Philippines Footprint Data

Summarized below are data collected across all Fish Forever communities and managed access areas. In the Philippines, subnational governments are provinces and local governments are municipalities. Managed access areas are defined by municipal water boundaries.

Explore each area where Fish Forever works by selecting one or multiple subnational governments, local governments and managed access areas. The data are the sum of the selected areas.
